ABOUT

The GreenLock range of retaining wall blocks was conceptualised and designed by Axel Buttgen, founder of Steco Concrete. Axel saw a gap in the market for a smaller block (12/m²and 25kg) that would be easier to lay and yet remain cost effective. In 1999 he approached Cape Brick in Cape Town to manufacture the units and the GreenLock S12 Block was born. The colour of the block was initially derived from the aggregates it contained, but this proved to be unacceptable as the block colour was inconsistent. Anthony Gracie, one of the directors of Cape Brick, had the idea to pigment the blocks with an oxide, and the colour consistency was ensured. In 2004 it was decided to add a rockface block to complement the existing smoothface unit and the GreenLock R12 was launched. The initial colour of the blocks was "tan", but this was changed to "sandstone" to reflect a more earthy, natural feel. As of July 2006 a new block has been added to the range, the GreenLock V12. This extremely versatile block presents the same unbroken "wave" pattern no matter how it is laid. The block is purpose designed for awkward sites with the ability to turn 105° between two blocks.
